THE FUTURE

The Future

We are working with Michael Collins Architects LLP who have been involved in various similar projects in and around Edinburgh and across the UK.

Our Mission

Our mission is to develop and reopen The Mansion, surrounding buildings and greenspaces, as a community hub where we can offer a range of learning, training, volunteering, social, environmental and heritage opportunities and activities, that benefits the mental and physical health & wellbeing of the community.

What do we want to do?

We currently propose the following projects:

The Mansion House will be reopened as a community hub offering a range of learning, volunteering, social, environmental and heritage activities to provide health, wellbeing and economic benefits for the community. We are also looking to offer spaces for music and art events, lectures, a base for outdoor educational and special interest groups, and social events e.g. parties, anniversary or weddings.

The surrounding greenspaces will be re-instated and re-developed for use by the community. We propose the following:

  • Re-instate the multi-purpose games courts

  • Provide a woodland walkway that connects to the network of wider walkways and cycle paths around Edinburgh

  • Retain the community woodland and protected Trees for Horticultural and educational activities

  • Continue to offer the greenspaces to local volunteering, social enterprise and business groups, providing a range of activities and events

  • Continue offering the “Walled Garden” as a community garden, which will be managed by Transition Edinburgh South and used by local residents, volunteers, schools, community groups, health and social care services and general public

  • The Stable Block will be developed and opened as a community space offering a community gardening, food and training hub using produce from the Walled Garden, where available
