GY&CC: THE YEARS UP TO CLOSURE

Gracemount Youth & Community Centre:

the years up to closure

In more recent years, Gracemount youth and community centre was managed by the Council up until closure in 2018.

The discos, clubs, arts, music, and excursions continued and many of the local youths, still have many stories and happy memories to share.

A lot of the youth art work projects can still be seen in the Mansion today.

And whilst The Bay City Rollers no longer frequented The Mansion, it still did not disappoint on the music front. Twelve50 (a hip hop/grime music production company) kick started their career at The Mansion.  They now have the largest following of hip hop on youtube.

The Mansion was also a base for local volunteering groups and other organisations:

  • Gracemount community church
  • The well-attended and very popular community lunch
  • Mansion Mondays
  • after school clubs, and
  • many other activity groups

When The Mansion closed all these groups lost their home and had to find a new base.

However, all is not lost - we have been engaging with many of the groups who operated from The Mansion, as well as new potential groups, and are looking forward to the future.
